Claiming Age

About this site

Who runs it

My name is Manraj Singh. I'm a computer science student at the University of Washington Bothell, and I build these calculators because the free ones I could find were either gated behind an email signup or gave a single number with no working shown.

I am not a financial adviser, an accountant, or an employee of any government agency, and nothing here is personal advice. What I can offer is arithmetic that is transparent, correct, and free to use without handing over your details.

If you find an error, email hello@claimingage.com and I'll fix it.

Where the figures come from

The benefit formulas used across this site are set in statute and have not changed since the 1983 Social Security Amendments:

Figures that change annually — the earnings test exempt amounts, the taxable wage base, cost-of-living adjustments — are taken from the Social Security Administration's published annual figures, and the year they apply to is stated on the page that uses them.

What this site is not

It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Social Security Administration or any other government agency. The SSA's own tools and official figures are at ssa.gov, and your personalised benefit estimate is in your my Social Security account there.

The calculators deliberately leave things out in order to stay understandable: income taxes on benefits, Medicare premium deductions, the government pension offset and windfall elimination provisions, and state-level treatment. Any real claiming decision should be checked with the SSA or a licensed professional who can see your whole situation.

How it's paid for

This site is free and carries advertising. Ads are served by third parties and their presence is not an endorsement. Nothing on the site is written to favour an advertiser, and no product placements are sold.
